We are pleased to share that the publication “Unleashing the Value of Metadata: An Extensible Architecture for Holistic #Metadata Management in Enterprises” has been accepted for the 28th International Conference on Enterprise Information Systems (ICEIS Conference 2026) and will be presented there in May 2026.
In this paper, Jan explores the current state of metadata management in typical enterprise data architectures and identify several challenges that impede the enterprise-wide consolidation and usage of metadata. To address these challenges, he proposes a conceptual architecture as a solution. This architecture involves a knowledge graph for the flexible modeling, storing, and integration of metadata. In addition, the proposed approach suggests a service-based model for updating and accessing metadata from the knowledge graph. This allows the available metadata to be used in an extensible and re-usable manner for arbitrary use cases.
Finally, the paper introduces a prototype that serves as a proof of concept. In conclusion, Jan´s approach can be considered a promising solution for enabling holistic metadata management in enterprise data architectures.
