For the leading German data management journal Datenbank-Spektrum, Prof. Dr. Holger Schwarz (University of Stuttgart) and Dr. Christoph Gröger (Robert Bosch GmbH) organized a special issue on the topic “Managing Data and Metadata in Complex Enterprise Landscapes”.

Bringing together current works from industry experts and academic researchers, an interdisciplinary set of in total seven papers was accepted after peer-review. Five papers focus on technical and application-oriented aspects of complex enterprise landscapes covering components like data catalogs and data lakes as well as self-service capabilities. Two further papers focus on legal aspects and legal challenges of managing data in databases as well of data-driven business models.

• A Recommender Approach to Enable Effective and Efficient Self-Service Analytics in Data Lakes (Christoph Stach, Rebecca Eichler & Simone Schmidt)
• Steuerrechtliche Herausforderungen datengetriebener Geschäftsmodelle am Beispiel des Connected-Car-Geschäftsmodells (Carsten Gröger)
